Summer 2023 Events in The Black Hills

Finding something to do in the Black Hills is not hard, especially during the summer season. In this blog article we provide just a few of the many events that we enjoy in the Black Hills!

1.)   Summer Nights

Every Thursday beginning Memorial Day to Labor Day downtown Rapid City transforms into a community get together filled with live music, local food trucks, and attractions for all ages! This event was put together by the 2007 Leadership Rapid City class and began in 2008. Ever since, it has been a weekly highlight for families in the area to enjoy affordable fun outside! Admission is free and there are adult beverages, Pepsi products, and water to purchase, as well as treats at affordable prices!

2.)  Hills Alive

Hills Alive is an annual summer music festival held at Memorial Park in Rapid City that features several of today’s best Christian artists! This year’s festival will be held Saturday, July 15th and Sunday, July 16th with different bands performing each day. This is another free event for the whole family to enjoy! Not only is there live music, but activities for kids, delicious food vendors, and merchant booths to enjoy as well! You can view the band line-up at events.visitrapidcity.com!

3.   Legends in Light Laser Show at Crazy Horse

Legends in Light is a multimedia laser-light show that is presented nightly at Crazy Horse Memorial, from Memorial Day weekend through September 30th. This storytelling laser-light show honors Native Americans and dramatizes the story of the heritage, cultures, and contributions by Native Americans to our society. Enjoy colorful animations, sound effects, and laser beams choreographed to music!

There are so many attractions and events in the Black Hills in the summer, as well as all year round! From bands, performances, nature, arts and culture, there is something for everyone to enjoy! The Events page on Visit Rapid City’s website outlines every event for the year, so these are just a few that many tourists and locals enjoy. What will your next adventure be?
